Who We Are
Homelessness is a visible problem in New Mexico. It makes our citizens vulnerable to theft, assault, illness, hunger, and overwhelming stress. It is estimated that close to 17,000 people in New Mexico experience homelessness over the course of a year. In Bernalillo County alone, close to 1,000 men seek shelter every night. The Albuquerque Opportunity Center provides 71 of the 111 year-round emergency shelter beds that are available for homeless men. In 2 years of operations, the AOC has provided almost 40,000 nights of shelter to 1300 men and helped 25% to exit into safe, affordable housing.
